Washington, DC – United States Senator Ken Salazar today announced that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Department of Defense (DoD) approved a deal between Boeing, Co. and Lockheed Martin Corp that will bring hundreds of high-paying jobs to the Denver metro area. The two companies will form a partnership, known as the United Launch Alliance (ULA), to supply launch services for rockets to the U.S. government. “Colorado is the ideal location for the ULA headquarters,” said Senator Salazar. “Our highly-educated workforce is a natural fit for these new science and technology jobs. I am glad that these private companies, the Department of Defense and the FTC all agree that the Denver metro area is the right fit for this new program.” Earlier this year, Senator Salazar wrote to the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, Kenneth Krieg, to move forward and approve the deal. In the letter Senator Salazar wrote, “The program would likely reduce costs for the Department of Defense and Air Force and bring high-paying jobs to several states, including my home state of Colorado.” According to initial reports from the Associated Press, the joint venture is expected to save the government roughly $150 million. # # #
