Sen. Salazar: 'Democratic Budget is Smart, Fiscally Disciplined and Will Help Put Our Economy Back on Track'

WASHINGTON, DC – For the last seven years, the Bush Administration’s misplaced priorities have severely damaged our nation's long-term fiscal health, nearly doubling the national debt and saddling our children with trillions of dollars more of that debt for decades to come. Last night, the United States Senate passed a budget resolution that is smart, fiscally disciplined, lowers taxes, creates new jobs and makes America safer. It provides critical investments in clean renewable energy technology, bolsters support for our nation’s veterans, provides middle class tax relief, and broadens health care access for our children.

“The Budget Resolution breaks with the failed policies of the past, and sets forth a fiscally-responsible plan that lowers taxes, creates new jobs and gets our economy back on track.

“In addition to providing short-term relief to stimulate our economy and tackle the growing housing crisis, we have also proposed meaningful long-term investments in clean energy projects; increased support for our troops in the field and veterans here at home; and added funding for Medicaid and other health care programs.

“It is often said that a Nation’s budget is an expression of its priorities. I am proud to say that the priorities we have set forth reflect those of the American people, and will help ensure that America is stronger, safer and more prosperous in the years that lie ahead.”
