Sen. Salazar Lauds Senate Passage of Bill to Boost Veterans Benefits

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, United States Senator Ken Salazar hailed the Senate’s passage of the Veterans Benefits Enhancement Act of 2007 (S. 1315), important bipartisan legislation that expands benefits for military veterans. The provisions in this landmark bill will go a long way in honoring the service and sacrifice of Colorado’s approximately 500,000 veterans.

“Today, we took a significant step in reaffirming our commitment to America’s military veterans,” said Senator Salazar. “The passage of this legislation comes at an especially appropriate time, as an increasing number of servicemen and women are returning home to find that support for their transition to civilian life is limited at best. It is absolutely imperative that we, as a nation, meet our obligation to provide continued support to all those who have bravely and honorably answered the call of duty.”

Specifically, the Veterans Benefits Enhancement Act of 2007, as passed by the Senate, contains provisions to:

  • Enhance life insurance programs for disabled veterans,
  • Provide increased benefits for veterans’ education programs
  • Improve housing programs for disabled service members
  • Modify pay and service requirements for judges of the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims
