Salazar: 'National Veterans Cemetery Must Honor Sacrifice of All
Southern Colorado Veterans' WASHINGTON, DC – United States Senator Ken Salazar issued the following statement after today’s House Veterans Affairs Committee hearing to examine the VA cemetery site selection process and how it pertains to the proposed national cemetery in Colorado, hosted by Congressmen Doug Lamborn (CO-5) and John Salazar (CO-7). “I am extremely pleased by the fact that the VA has committed itself to the creation of an additional National Veterans Cemetery in Colorado. I am also pleased that today Secretary Tuerk confirmed that the VA will look at locations south of Monument Hill for a potential location for the next cemetery. “Veterans groups in the region – many of whom were well-represented at today’s hearing – have expressed a common desire to see the cemetery located in southern El Paso County, between the cities of Pueblo and Colorado Springs. I share this same desire. “I want to make
sure that the effort to create a National Veterans Cemetery for all
military veterans in Southern Colorado – an effort that has been underway
for a long, long time – is seen through to its conclusion. I will continue
to do all I can to ensure that Colorado’s veterans, regardless of location,
are afforded a final resting place worthy of their service and sacrifice.” ###
